With short days, long nights and a deep cold, January in Manitoba can feel like the looongest month of the school year. It with this in mind that I selected “The Day the War Came” as a read aloud for a crew of my Principal peeps at a recent professional learning session. This picture book is an excellent reminder of the “why” for the work we do as educators and helps us to reflect of the literal and figurative “wars” that follow our students into our schools and classrooms on the daily basis.
